Car thefts in Lanaudière spark chase to

A 53-year-old man from Saint-Paul was arrested Friday afternoon following a police chase that ended in .

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the event began around 7:45 a.m. when the individual, who was intoxicated and in crisis, left his home in Saint-Paul.

A search was then launched.

However, around 9 a.m., the suspect stole a salt spreader truck using a knife on Chemin Lagarde in Saint-Paul. He then abandoned it in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan.

The 50-year-old continued on foot before stealing an SUV.

It was at this moment that a pursuit began all the way to Laval. Around 10:30 a.m., the man “finished his escape by climbing a tree.”

He finally got off around 1:30 p.m., after negotiation with the authorities.

No accidents occurred and no one was injured. The suspect was taken into custody by the SQ in addition to being arrested for fleeing, dangerous driving and truck theft.

The Lanaudier remained detained before appearing at the Joliette courthouse in the coming days.

A fitness for detention assessment will also be carried out.
