The fugitive who escaped from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert was located Wednesday but remains on the run.
The disappearance of Glen Fredrick Richard Halkett, 29, was noticed by penitentiary employees on December 31 around 9:30 p.m.
In a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (GRC) claims that officers patrolling the Cree community Little Red River30 kilometers north of Prince Albert, spotted the fugitive driving a vehicle in front of a house in the area on January 1 around 11 a.m.
The agents of the GRC turned on their emergency lights and approached the vehicle but the man accelerated and fled, hitting the side of the police vehicle in the process. No officers were injured, but the vehicle was damaged, according to the GRC.
Officers continued their search and found the vehicle, but Glen Halkett was no longer in the vehicle, federal police said in their press release.

When the police saw him, the 29-year-old man was wearing a gray or light brown toque, a hooded sweater and a beige coat.
He is 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m) tall and weighs 168 pounds (76 kg). He has brown eyes and black hair, as well as a tattoo on his neck and under his left eye.
The GRC recommends that the public not approach him and report any information to the authorities.
Prior to his escape, the fugitive was serving a sentence of 2 years and 9 months for offenses including break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime worth more than $5,000 (x3), theft of a motor vehicle and attempting to flee from a peace officer.
He now faces the following charges: escape from lawful custody, unlawfully remaining at large, fleeing from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while prohibited.
The GRC is asking the public to report the fugitive’s whereabouts to their local detachment by calling 310-RCMP (7267) or anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers Saskatchewan at 1-800-222-8477.
