New Year's Eve was eventful for law enforcement and firefighters in the Rhône.

The first unofficial figures suggest that nearly a hundred vehicles were set on fire in the metropolitan area, and less than ten in the rest of the department.

The municipalities of Vaulx-en-Velin, Givors, Rillieux-la-Pape, and Vénissieux were the most affected, without forgetting Lyon where nearly twenty cars burned, particularly in the 8th arrondissement.

Three individuals suspected of being arsonists were arrested and taken into custody.

This is a higher toll than those of the last two years. The arsons even continued into the early morning this Wednesday, with firefighter interventions after 7 a.m.

Note that episodes of urban violence took place during the night, targeting in particular the police officers deployed on the ground through the throwing of projectiles for example. However, no officers were injured. At least two people were arrested.
