The 37th AU summit, held last February in Addis Ababa, was an opportunity for the Kingdom to underline the importance of a holistic, integrated and multidimensional approach, based on a close interweaving between peace, security and development on the continent.
Inspired by the High Royal Vision for Africa, Morocco continued during the year 2024 its tireless efforts to promote common African action, based on the principles of solidarity, peace and unity, the goal being to realize the aspirations of the populations of the continent, particularly in the areas of peace, security and development.
To do this, the Kingdom continued to advocate for strengthening the credibility and effectiveness of the intergovernmental process within the AU, through contribution to the reform process within the pan-African organization and strengthening good financial and administrative governance within the Union Commission.
Morocco, which has worked to ensure a significant presence within the various structures of the AU, has carried out action intended to bring added value to development programs and projects of a strategic nature for the African continent, in particular Agenda 2063 .
A member of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) since 2018, the Kingdom is committed to defending vital issues in the peace and security agenda in Africa, like the he importance of registering refugees and guaranteeing the effectiveness of humanitarian action in their favor.
On another note, Morocco has continually stressed the importance of ensuring the success of electoral processes in Africa and strengthening democracy on the continent.
In this regard, the capital of the Kingdom hosted from April 29 to May 3, 2024, the 3rd cycle of specialized training for AU electoral observers.
Morocco’s strong commitment to continental action is also reflected through a strong presence within the various structures of the African Union.
In this sense, the year 2024 was marked by the election of Ms. Amal Ayachi to the African Space Agency, and of Ms. Nadia Annouz to the AU Advisory Council against Corruption, while Ms. Latifa Jbabdi was elected vice-president of the African women’s platform for transitional justice.
Furthermore, the 37th AU summit praised the roles played by HM King Mohammed VI, AU Champion on migration, in particular to implement the African Agenda for Migration and make it an engine of development .
On the other hand, Morocco continued to emphasize at the various AU meetings the link between separatism and terrorism, while working to dismantle the theses of the enemies of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom within of the Pan-African organization.
The year 2024 was also marked by the Kingdom’s major contribution to the AU continental effort, aimed at strengthening the self-sufficiency of African public health systems to improve the continent’s effectiveness in terms of preparedness and response. response to disease threats, notably through the first real-time PCR test for Mpox manufactured locally in Morocco, recommended by the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC-Africa).
Since its return to the AU, Morocco has succeeded in establishing itself as a major and active player which contributes to the peace, security and development of the Continent, in accordance with the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI.
