It is in Reunion that Gaël Rivière begins his tour of France of regional disabled sports committees. Promoting youth but also giving clubs the means to develop the practice, these are its main objectives.
Gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Gaël Rivière was recently elected president of the French Handisport Federation. Sixth president of the FFH and first Reunion Islander, he was elected for 4 years, and intends to work for his native island.
Reunion is a very interesting territory because we have a fairly young population. So I believe that there is a lot of potential to discover and grow in Reunion.

Among the areas he wants to develop are the economic and financial aspects, ” since if we want to be more useful to members, committees and clubs, we must have more means, more resources “.
To do this, the president of the FFH wants to implement an ambitious policy in terms of public and private partnerships to increase the financial capacity for action.
Currently in Reunion, Gaël Rivière meets all the presidents of the island's disabled sports clubs to hear local issues. An approach that he will then undertake with the committees of all French regions, from the first half of 2025.

For the regional disabled sports committee, the journey of the 34-year-old Reunion Islander is a matter of immense pride.
Gaël is a person with a disability, who is blind, so that means that everything is doable, everything is possible. We must never give up, because there is success at all levels.
