March 2024: the return of Frédéric Antonetti to SC
March 2024: the return of Frédéric Antonetti to SC Bastia

This is the end of a suspense that lasted several weeks. While the club was in full turmoil in the championship, far from being saved in Ligue 2, the leaders were keen to take a completely new sporting direction and give the keys to the sport to the former Bastia coach.

INTERVIEW. Frédéric Antonetti: “I always had this project for Sporting in mind”

For weeks, months, his name kept coming up, whether around the cafes of the Place Saint-Nicolas, but also behind the scenes, because the arrival of Fred Antonetti was carefully considered by the Bastia management, who clearly felt that they had reached the end of their sporting abilities. It was therefore time to take reinforcement at this level.

Young players with great potential

Since 2017, it must be admitted that this is one of the most often discussed themes. An old sea serpent. Many times, the question of recruiting a sporting or technical director had been asked to the management of the club, who did not see the usefulness, or the necessity, before this 2023-2024 season definitely very tortuous. In the columns of Corse-Matin, months ago, the coach Régis Brouard announced the end of a cycle at SCB. The coach was not mistaken and it was therefore time to move on.

The return of Fred Antonetti therefore marks the start of a whole new story, a new chapter for the club which has been reborn from its ashes since 2017. Faced with the current difficulties of modern , still so dependent on money (perhaps too much ), the new technical director will therefore put in place a post-training policy, as he will explain during a press conference at the start of the season.

“We do not have the means to attract experienced players aged 25, 26. They are much too expensive. We are therefore going to recruit young players with high potential, who will be able to develop during the season. Young people bring talent enthusiasm, they bring speed, we want lively football which will compensate for the lack of experience. We also have a backbone of experienced players who will be there to supervise them, like. Christopher Vincent or Johny Placide.”

What followed during the summer was a flurry of transfers with 11 departures and 13 arrivals (including 11 players under the age of 23). Among them, the recruitment of Boutrah (24 ans), Tramoni (21 ans), Rodrigues (24 ans), Cisse (21 ans), Guevara (23 ans), Etoga (21 ans), Soumahoro (19 years old) or Oulaï (18 years old). Young people whose potential is not to be proven, but rather to be confirmed.
