After the launch of the preparatory work at the start of the year, the works contract was notified to the Térélian group, agent, and SDI, its co-contractor. The port is undertaking the first works corresponding to the mobilization of site installations (life base) and pyrotechnic detection on the construction site of future works. The removal of explosive devices and bulky items is in fact an imperative safety prerequisite before any work begins.
The first stage of the campaign consists of an electromagnetic reconnaissance of the site. According to suspicions, a visualization by divers is carried out. If the presence of an explosive device is confirmed, the demining services will be contacted to remove the object safely. The duration of this work, also including the removal of bulky items, is estimated at 6 months.
As a reminder, this river access consists of a channel 1,800 meters long, protected by a dike, which will put Port 2000 in direct communication with the Seine basin. The transport of containers between Port 2000 and the river today requires intermediate transport: as river vessels are not all adapted and equipped to take the maritime route leading to the maritime terminals, only 10% of the fleet currently accesses it. These “load breaks” make river traffic less competitive and slow down the development of modal shift.
The project, with a total amount of €197 million, benefits from funding distributed as follows: €86.05 million by the Normandy Region, €23.6 million by the State, €11 million by the European Union (via the Connecting Europe Facility) and €76.35 million by Haropa Port.
