Dakar, Dec 23 (APS) – The director of equity and gender equality underlined, Monday, in Dakar, that Senegal stands out for its leadership in policies to eliminate gender inequalities in Africa.
''I recall that it is here, in Dakar, that the call to action for the elimination of gender inequalities was launched, during the second Men's Conference on Positive Masculinity organized by the African Union in 2022 and, today, positive developments further reaffirm our country's leadership on these issues,'' declared Astou Diouf Guèye.
She was speaking at the meeting of the Committee for the National School Strategy for Husbands (SN-EDM) and the Promotion of Positive Masculinity, in which several stakeholders took part.
The objective of the National School of Husbands Strategy (SN-EDM) is to bring together national, community and individual efforts in terms of involving men in the elimination of gender inequalities and in the reproductive health of women, to through the promotion of positive masculinity and human rights, according to a document provided to the press.
In her communication, the director of equity and gender equality, a structure under the supervision of the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, recalled that Senegal had decided, in 2011, to implement a program on the school of husbands to strengthen the policy of eliminating gender inequalities.
''The involvement of men and boys in policies to eliminate gender inequalities and promote women's reproductive health had already been recommended to States during the Cairo Conference in 1994,'' she said in particular. underlines.
She also recalled that in Senegal, the pilot phase of the program on the school for husbands was tested in the regions of Tambacounda and Kédougou.
''This experimental phase revealed that the participation and contribution of men in the fight against violence against women and the reduction of gender inequalities were promising,'' argued Astou Diouf Guèye.
Present at the meeting of the Committee of the National School Strategy for Husbands (SN-EDM), Ramatoulaye Camara, representative of the Minister of Health and Social Action, affirmed that “the engagement of men in health issues of reproduction is not only beneficial for themselves, but also for their partners, their children, and for society as a whole.
This is why, “it is essential that men are informed about aspects related to reproductive health,” she insisted.
