Wind gusts of more than 120km/h in Perpignanand well beyond on the most exposed capes of the Pyrénées-Orientales: the tramontane is unleashed this Monday, December 23 in the four corners of the department. Arrival yesterday afternoon, the storm continues to sweep the Catalan country and is now causing some damage. Emergency services are on the job.

The wind does damage

At the beginning of the afternoon, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of the Pyrénées-Orientales (SDIS 66) reported multiple interventions to News Perpignan. The latter require the use of numerous all-purpose vehicles (UVVs), particularly due to tree falls.

As at Pollestres, where a tree fell on the public highway (main photo), announces Mayor Jean-Charles Moriconi, who thanks “the municipal teams for their responsiveness”. Fortunately, no injuries or damage are not to be deplored, reassures the elected official.

Falling trees, flying trampolines…

Elsewhere in the Pyrénées-Orientales, roofs were damaged. HAS Trouillas, a car garage was notably evacuated after tiles flew off its roof. Finally, a more spectacular intervention on the side of Céret, where a trampoline flew out of a garden to end up hanging from electrical cables.

By mid-afternoon, the firefighters were still fully mobilized. For the moment, no major intervention is to be deplored. But as a reminder, the tramontana will continue to blow tonight, next night, and even this Tuesday, December 24.
