Ziguinchor, Dec 22 (APS) – The Minister of Family and Solidarity, Maïmouna Dièye, received, on Sunday, the quota of sheep carcasses (300) allocated to the Ziguinchor region as part of the donation offered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the government of Senegal, noted the APS.
This donation of 10,000 sheep carcasses from the sacrificial meat of the 2024 Hajj was received on December 19, 2024 at the Autonomous Port of Dakar by the National Solidarity Fund, recalled the minister, specifying that the region has a quota of 300 sheep carcasses this year. It was 250 last year.
The reception ceremony recorded the presence of the deputy governor of Ziguinchor in charge of Development, Alsény Bangoura, the regional director of social action, Seydou Nourou Thiam, that of community development, Sidi Bacary Ndiaye.
The regional president of the »Badianou gox” (community relays) from Ziguinchor, Fatou Cissé, beneficiaries and populations also took part.
This donation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia corresponds to 100 tonnes of meat worth approximately 1 billion 400 million FCFA. It is intended to support those hard hit by the context of food insecurity and the considerable increase in the cost of living, explained Ms. Dièye, ensuring that this action is one of the illustrations of the secular and multifaceted relations that Senegal maintains with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“Like last year, this donation will be the subject of rigorous distribution for the benefit of needy populations throughout the national territory with a well-tested targeting methodology, particularly through the channel of administrative authorities,” promised the Minister of Family and Solidarity.
She says she hopes the receipt of the donation coinciding with the end of year celebrations “the necessary diligence will be taken in the delivery to the beneficiaries”.
