Quite a few Ligue 1 teams were on deck this afternoon to play their first round of the Coupe de France this Sunday. With few surprises on arrival in the end.
Quickly reduced to 10, the Stéphanois failed to contain the Marseille attacks at Geoffroy-Guichard. Mason Greenwood opened the scoring with a beautiful volley from the left in the 22nd minute. Adrien Rabiot doubled the lead before the break by recovering a ball from a corner.
In the second half, Luis Henrique and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg increased the score, sealing a clear 0-4 victory for OM. A solid performance which highlights the difficulties of a Saint-Étienne in great suffering.
Reims and Monaco win against R1
Stade de Reims got a little scare at Mutzig when Schall equalized on the hour mark for the locals, residents of R1. But the Rémois then accelerated to regain the advantage and finally win 1-3, thus avoiding the trap.
In Toulouse, Union Saint-Jean (R1) could not resist AS Monaco, despite a heroic goalkeeper who saved two penalties. The Monegasques won clearly 1-4, and put an end to the amateurs' journey in the competition.
The Dunkirk surprise
In Bordeaux, the Girondins opened the ball in the 18th minute, but Stade Rennais got going before inflicting a 1-4 setback on Adrien Louveau's teammates.
And then, the surprise of the afternoon to finish: solid at home in the championship, AJ Auxerre was ejected from the tournament by Dunkirk (L2). A short victory, 0-1, enough to delight the Northerners, who will see the next round!
Nothing but away victories for these first matches of the day on Sunday.
