She opens its doors this Saturday, December 21 2024 for the two weeks of Christmas vacation. This is the fifth ice rink available to the general public in the Caen metropolitan area for the end-of-year celebrations.
A larger, indoor ice rink after a premiere in May in 2022
Located in the parking lot between the village hall and the post office in May-sur-Orne, the ice rink expects its first skaters from 10 a.m. this Saturday, December 21. This is a second edition for the ice rink in May, after an appearance in 2022. But this is the first time covered and she was enlarged (5 meters longer and 80 cm wider) for the occasion.
Two years ago we had at least four days of significant rain, and it was more of a pool than an ice rink at that point. We therefore wanted our ice rink to be covered this year. It will be much more pleasant to practice on the ice and to maintain.
Four days needed to install the indoor ice rink
Since Monday, December 16, the technical teams have been hard at work installing the ice rink in May-sur-Orne. Four days were needed. Since this Thursday evening, the ice is ready to welcome skaters of all ages, from 2 years old to whenever you want. “Bringing an ice rink two years ago was a choice for enliven our community, but we cannot do it every year, because it has a cost,” continues Stefan Stankovic. A budget less than 40,000 euros excluding tax is announced in 2024.
Last year, we realized that there was a shortage, because children, parents and merchants were asking us for the return of the ice rink.
Objective: more than 4,000 people during the holidays
In 2022, with the arrival of the ice rink in May-sur-Orne, there was 4,000 tickets sold during the holidays. This year, the municipality hopes to do better. We do not have a specific objective, but by having an indoor ice rink, we hope for more audiences because people will be safe,” continues the deputy mayor in charge of community events.
A snacking area will be set up every afternoon when it is open. In total, there may be 60 people at the same time as much as possible on the ice, which will be maintained daily. Between 15 and 20 people (municipal staff and volunteers) will take turns during the 15 days of opening to welcome the public.
Please note that the mornings (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) of Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays will be reserved for familieswith children accompanied, so that everyone can skate in complete peace of mind.
Practical: indoor ice rink in May-sur-Orne until January 5 (closed December 25 and January 1). Prices: €3 for under 18s and €5 for adults (skates included). Open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (except Tuesdays 24 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (except Sunday January 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
