The law was expected to authorize very heavy penalties, even the death penalty, for activism against the country’s discriminatory laws making the wearing of the veil compulsory, which would constitute a dangerous escalation.

Many people believe that this tougher law could have revived the protests which followed the arrest and then the assassination of Mahsa Amini22 years old, in September 2022.

Mahsa Amini was killed by Iranian moral police for protesting against this law dating from the arrival of the Islamic regime in Iran in 1979.

Some Iranian women refuse to have their behavior imposed by the regime, particularly the wearing of the hijab. Among them, the singer Parastoo Ahmadi who on his channel Youtube and at the risk of his life, performed one of his songs unveiled.

The authorities are “intervened and took appropriate measures, opening proceedings against the singer and the production” reported an Iranian news agency.

At the beginning of November, an Iranian student from Azad University in Tehran undressed in the street as a sign of protest after being attacked by the moral police and security forces because of her clothing.
