Les Sables-d’Olonne Vendée. Results on fishing quotas in BRUSSELS for 2025

Peche quotas 2025

Florence PINEAU, François BLANCHET and Jean-Bernard MORINEAU were present in Brussels to participate in the annual negotiation of Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and fishing quotas 2025.

Accompanied by representatives of Vendée fishing, they spoke on Monday evening with Mr. Fabrice LOHER, Minister of the Sea and Fisheries, then followed the negotiations for more than 48 hours.

In the middle of the night, the Fisheries Ministers of the European Union announced a final agreement which is rather favorable for our territories.

In fact, the quotas for bass, sole, whiting and hake are maintained at the same level as last year and horse mackerel fishing is reopened..
For pollack, even if our fishermen retain the same possibilities, this species can no longer be targeted, only bycatch is permitted.

Finally, for glass eels, this already very constrained fishery is maintained with one month for marketing and two months for restocking.

The noose tightens for mackerel with a 30% drop in quotas for all French fishing, we will assess the impact of this restriction on our ports in the coming months.

We have come a long way compared to the commission's initial proposals, it is a relief for fishermen, fishmongers, fish auctions and the entire industry who can thus better understand the year 2025.
This agreement must not make us forget the Upcoming closure of fishing in the Bay of Biscay from January 22 to February 20, 2025 and which had deprived the sector of more than 50% of its resources at the start of 2024.

We remain mobilized with professionals across the industry to maintain artisanal, sustainable and responsible fishing in our ports.
