Katrin Milzow and Thomas Werder will succeed Angelika Kalt as directors of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), ensuring a transition based on continuity.
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) will be led by a duo. From April 1, 2025, Katrin Milzow and Thomas Werder will take over from current director Angelika Kalt. This decision, taken by the Foundation Board, reflects a desire for continuity in the governance of the institution.
Katrin Milzow and Thomas Werder are no strangers to the workings of the SNSF: both are currently members of the Board of Directors. In her current role, Katrin Milzow is responsible for Research Development, thematic research, as well as cross-cutting issues such as sustainability, equal opportunities and open science. She also co-directs the Research Research International Institute (RORI). She studied at Oxford and Brussels, then obtained a doctorate in European politics at IHEID in Geneva.
For his part, Thomas Werder Schläpfer is head of the Projects, Careers, International Cooperation and Grant Management sectors. As head of Research Encouragement, he strives to simplify and improve the funding allocation processes. Before joining the SNSF, he worked for nine years at ABB in the field of applied research, before leading teams internationally as head of development.
