While job cuts and reorganizations continue in the industrial sector, the CGT is calling for a demonstration by industrial employees this Thursday.
“The CGT today lists 286 job cuts plans since September 2023. In Haute-Vienne, it is Valéo, Legrand, Deguillaume, DS Smith, Smurfit, lists the union. Broken lives, families in uncertainty: behind the numbers, a human drama is playing out! There is no worse social violence than unemployment. These job cuts also plunge families into uncertainty. These layoff plans lead to profound social impacts, from financial difficulties to loss of housing, weakening the social fabric in many territories. »
The appointment is given at 10:30 a.m., Carrefour Tourny, in Limoges, before going to the prefecture where an interview with state services is planned. A press conference and a “protest plancha” are also organized in front of Legrand’s Valprod site. The CGT calls on civil servants, who were already on the streets, next week to demonstrate in defense of public service.
In a joint press release, the different NFP parties are concerned about the situation of industry in Haute-Vienne and support the mobilization, they announced. “We vehemently denounce the practices of companies which choose to relocate their production,” write the left-wing parties.
“There is no inevitability to industrial decline, nor to that of public services, they add. On the contrary, industry and public services constitute for us daring concomitant solutions to face social and environmental challenges, to master a mode of development responsive to human needs [et] rebuild the republican social pact by guaranteeing equal access to employment, health and education…”
