The coalfield is over, but the Town of Forbach has managed to transform its image over time. In any case, this is what the councilor, Alexandre Cassaro, said at the microphone of Sans Filter, the political program of the group La Semaine. “We have initiated a reversal of the image of the community with what we are organizing in the heart of the city, in particular,” he believes.
He refers in particular to the Action Cœur de Ville program which made it possible to economically revitalize the center. “Commercial vacancy is decreasing: we went from 80 empty cells to 39”, with the help in particular of “free parking for consumers with the installation of blue zones”, a “pop-up shop which allows you to test your activity for several month”, but also “more security with the presence of the municipal police”. Building on its geographical positioning, Forbach is also banking on cross-border customers: “We are trying, more and more, to bring in Saarland consumers.” Four million euros were invested in the Cœur de Ville project according to Alexandre Cassaro.
On the entertainment side, the mayor continues: “We have succeeded in making the Schlossberg park the first tourist destination in the East Moselle, thanks to new developments, a treetop adventure course which generates 30,000 visitors per year, and we have new activities with a major medieval festival in summer and a Christmas market which has become the 2nd in the department, behind Metz”. Finally, more generally, the mayor also clarified at the microphone of Sans Filter that “much stronger support has been provided to economic players”.
