In search of the perfect companion for the end-of-year holidays, this is where many families go to select their Christmas tree. The sale takes place in a beautiful farmhouse and in a very family atmosphere.

3,000 trees per year

The trees were carefully cut and then placed on the ground, allowing buyers to carefully choose their future treasure.

Every year this farm sells three thousand fir treeshalf of which is intended for individuals. Ten percent of sales are reserved for schools, while the rest is sold to town halls or local businesses (40%).

Myriam and Dominique Bieuvilleat the head of the operation, left the region in 1996 to take over the family land. Far from being a complementary activity, the cultivation of fir trees has now become a real pillar for these farmers.

There's a lot of work to get a beautiful tree, it doesn't grow alone!

The increase in demand and growing expectations in terms of aesthetics have propelled the fir to the status of an agricultural crop in its own right. “On average, to offer a quality tree, you have to count between four and seven years of attentive care depending on the species chosen,” explains Myriam Bieuville.

Constant care

On seven hectares around Cormier, the fir trees grow in harmony with nature. The plants are purchased in . Measuring thirty centimeters when they arrive, they are carefully replanted in the fir forests. Spruce trees are harvested after four years, while Nordmann trees require seven years of care. “Each tree requires special attention: straightening the trunks, pruning the branches to ensure perfect balance,” explains the farmer.

The fir trees are subject to meticulous “combing” to correct the distribution of the branches. These production methods are reminiscent of those used for vines or small fruits such as blackcurrants, testifying to the know-how and passion of Myriam and Dominique for their profession.

In addition to growing fir trees, the farm offers a range of “delicacies” made from fir trees, ranging from salt flavored with fir buds with syrups and jelly. “Everything is made on site with our harvests,” explains Dominique, thus guaranteeing authentic and local products.
