The Canton of Neuchâtel is adopting a new social assistance system. Entitled “harmonized differentiated monitoring” (SDH), this system aims to adapt the support of social assistance beneficiaries to their specific situation, in a harmonized manner across the entire cantonal territory. From January 1, 2025, it will be introduced to all social assistance authorities (regional social services, Caritas and Protestant Social Center). The Canton of Neuchâtel specifies in its press release released this Wednesday that “this change in method aims to strengthen the autonomy of people receiving social assistance and to adapt to specific situations”.
This result is the fruit of an “unprecedented” collaboration between the State of Neuchâtel, the Neuchâtel municipalities and the social assistance authorities for refugees.
The “social council” in September 2025
The SDH will introduce “social advice” from September 2025. This new support constitutes personal, one-off and/or time-limited assistance to applicants who do not benefit from material assistance. The objective is to respond and advise the population concerned by a possible request for social benefits, and to provide support adapted to each situation. /comm-cob
