(Montreal) A large part of Quebec will be swept by a low pressure system which will leave significant amounts of rain in its path, Wednesday and Thursday, which could complicate travel.

Environment Canada has already issued numerous weather warnings which, depending on the region, indicate heavy amounts of rain, freezing rain or snow expected in the coming hours. Strong winds could also be expected in some places.
According to the federal agency, since the rain will fall in places where winter was already well established, travel could be more difficult, both by vehicle and on foot.
“As the ground is frozen and has reduced absorption capacity, significant quantities of water could accumulate on roads and other areas. A significant increase in the flow and level of certain watercourses is also likely to occur,” we read in the Environment Canada notice.
In Greater Montreal, we expect to receive 30 to 40 mm of rain, while precipitation could reach up to 60 mm north of Quebec. Freezing rain could also fall in areas further north.
In Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie, a wind warning is also in effect, as Environment Canada predicts gusts of up to 120 km/h.
Another element not to be neglected: the water which will be accumulated during the mild spell on Wednesday could freeze on Thursday, due to a drop in the mercury overnight.
“Roads could become slippery, causing difficult road conditions and transportation delays Thursday morning,” warns Environment Canada.
Weather forecasts pushed the City of Montreal to launch its first snow loading operation of the season on Tuesday. The City thus wanted to prevent all the snow accumulated in the streets in recent days from melting and adding to the rain.
