IHe had promised “a progress update” in mid-December, at the end of an episode of near paralysis of emergencies in Périgord. Benoît Elleboode, director general of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency (ARS), kept his word. Tuesday, December 10, he went to the Périgueux hospital center to present several measures aimed at reducing the tension exerted on several services.
“I think you are not going to be disappointed, the situation is improving,” said the head of the ARS as a preamble. If his previous visit looked more like a communications operation, this time he presented concrete measures to get through “this difficult moment”. In addition to the reconstruction of an emergency service in Périgueux, by 2030, for a total bill of around 21 million euros, Benoît Elleboode confirmed the establishment, on January 1, 2025, of an inter- establishments between the three emergency services of the Dordogne (Périgueux, Bergerac and Sarlat).
Recruitments
“This joint medical project should make it possible to develop guards throughout the department, so that, in the event of a hard blow, we can prioritize things and not find ourselves in the crisis situation that we experienced in month of October, with a disagreement on how to best organize the response to the needs of the population,” says Benoît Elleboode.
“A first recruitment is effective, two others will be at the start of the year”
The problem has been identified: the chronic lack of doctors in the Dordogne. The department needs approximately 30 full-time equivalents (FTEs) for emergency physicians; at the worst of the October crisis, there were only 15 on deck. So, everything is done to create “a virtuous circle of projects” in order to attract the maximum number of practitioners. “We have authorized the recruitment of doctors with the highest possible remuneration ceilings according to the regulations,” insists Benoît Elleboode.
Additional costs for the ARS
Gaëlle Ranchou, president of the establishment medical commission (CME) of the Périgueux hospital, says she is already seeing encouraging results: “A first recruitment is effective, two others will be at the start of the year. » Normally, six emergency doctors operate; in the past, there were sometimes only three or four of them carrying out their missions. “The number of four-day slots has decreased, we have many more dates where there are at least five,” assures the president of the CME.
Another point was raised: delocalized regulation, provided by the liberals. “We have a service in Haute-Vienne which agrees to help with certain regulation periods, provided that they have the right information system,” assures the director of the ARS. The system could be put in place within two months. Benoît Elleboode continues: “The additional costs linked to all the solutions that have been found will be covered by the ARS. »
In Sarlat
During a press conference, the director general of the ARS confirmed that there would be no abrupt closure of emergencies in Sarlat for the end-of-year holidays. Daytime regulations will remain possible.
