The Departmental Union of Associations for Volunteer Blood Donation of Gers meets in Miradoux

Saturday November 23, 2024, the Departmental Union of Associations for Volunteer Blood Donation of Gers held its Board of Directors in the Miradoux village hall reserved by Christine Allain and her team from the Blood Donation Association.

Marie Chantal Roumat, president of the UD, thanked the volunteers present representing 12 out of 17 associations in the department and excused those who were absent.

She thanked the Mayor for his presence and his interest in promoting blood donation.

On the agenda, the return of the National Congress to where different themes allow us to deepen our knowledge on the evolution of collection, the evolution of transfusion needs, plasma donation which is a health issue major public.

The objective for the EFS is to collect 1,400,000 liters of plasma in 2028 (compared to 827,000 liters in 2023) in order to allow the LFB (French Fractionation and Biotechnologies Laboratory) to manufacture medicines from plasma (MDP ), notably immunoglobulins. They make it possible to treat thousands of patients suffering from serious pathologies each year, however, is more than 65% dependent on fractionation multinationals.

It is necessary to inform the general public to make each of us aware of plasma donation, European citizens are well aware of blood donation but few know about plasma donation and the role it plays in the provision of life-saving medicines.

Each association president spoke summarizing the number of donors presented and the actions carried out over the year in partnership with the EFS.

Also discussed by Marie Chantal were the JMDS (World Blood Donor Day) which thanks donors on June 14, the appeal to young people of good will, the end-of-year campaign called “solidarity” from December 16 to 29 to support the “children's cancer health” association during which EFS undertakes to donate €1 to the association for each donation.

The date of the UD General Assembly is set for March 15, 2025.
