Risk of collapse of a building in Les Orres in the Hautes-Alpes before the opening of the station

A few days before the opening of the station, this is very bad news for the Orres station. One of the largest buildings in the station, the Cairn is the subject of a safety order, in other words a danger order for structural problems underground.

Since November 20, a municipal decree prohibits access to the Cairn, the largest building in Orres. uAn expertise carried out in August 2024 highlights structural fragility on the foundations and a beam. The court expert requested the intervention of a geotechnical engineer and a structural engineer. Their conclusions should be presented at a general meeting this Saturday, December 14.

Snow and sun, winter looks good on the slopes, despite many absentees… the occupants of the Cairn have no longer had access to their building since November 20. Here 200 second homes whose owners live far from the resort.

“I was convinced, in good faith, that the trustee was doing what had to be done, apart from the ping-pong of who is responsible for what. I never would have imagined that it would get to this point “, explains Valérie, owner of an apartment on France 3 Provence-Alpes. Their trustee has been talking about infiltration problems in parking lots for a long time. Consequences today: closed stores and financial difficulties for everyone.

“For me, it makes me lose all my rentals, this year, it was full so all the rentals are canceled. For me, personally, the rentals are what allows me to pay the building charges.”

The trustee, whom we were unable to contact, points out the responsibility of the municipality in the underground fragilities. Arguments firmly rejected by the mayor.

“The co-ownership regulations are very precise on this matter. The waterproofing of the slab is the responsibility of the co-ownership. The municipality spends money each year for the maintenance of these parking lots, but I repeat, waterproofing is the responsibility of the co-owners”, explains Pierre Vollaire, mayor of Orres (SE).
