Luc Leroy is present every Friday morning at the Guingamp market (Côtes-d'Armor) to offer his skills as a bicycle technician, for diagnostics, maintenance and repair.
It is also on those of Tréguier and Châtelaudren. “It’s a great rhythm, that’s one every two days. It gives me time to work in my workshop,” he rejoices.
In the markets, he sells things to improve or decorate his bike, but is mainly there for his technical services, directly on site.
“Sometimes people pass me, they go back to get their bike and drop it off with me,” he says.
Originally from Rennes, Luc Leroy studied in Brest, before working for many years in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Back in Côtes-d'Armor, he now puts his skills as a cycle technician at the service of residents, directly at home.
It travels within a perimeter of 40 kilometers around Guingamp.
Luc Leroy works mainly with individuals, but some companies also use his services.
Giving bikes a longer life
At the same time as this professional reconversion, after working for 30 years in the IT department of a company, Luc Leroy joined a self-repair association. “Helping members repair their own bikes allowed me to realize that I like repairing all types of bikes. And above all, all bikes are repairable and I like to extend their lifespan rather than pushing for repurchase. »
He therefore trained in Grenoble as a sales technician and very quickly specialized in bicycles. Luc Leroy loves cycling, as a sport, but also for its ecological side.
Favor soft mobility
Promoting this means of transport, at a time of climate emergency, “motivates him a lot. »
“I myself went to work by bike,” says Luc Leroy, who always loved doing it.
Luc Leroy also offers accessories for “comfort, safety and maximizing ease in the saddle. »
But he is mainly responsible for “diagnostics on defective bikes and maintenance” and sometimes he does the repairs himself. “Sometimes, I put back on wheels a bike that is only used for small children during the summers, and it’s this human connection that I also like,” he rejoices.
