Lhe low emissions zone (ZFE) of the Bordeaux metropolis has not yet come into force (this is for the 1is January 2025), but it is already bursting onto the legal scene. This Tuesday, December 10, the Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) Gironde filed an appeal before the administrative court of Bordeaux to attack this ZFE, on the grounds that it will prohibit the circulation of motorcycles registered before 1is January 2000.
Remember that ZFEs are legal obligations in towns with more than 150,000 inhabitants. As the metropolis of Bordeaux does not often exceed air pollution thresholds, its will have a limited effect. Cars registered before 1997 and, therefore, motorcycles before the year 2000 will be excluded.
“We don’t understand”
A serious error, according to the FFMC Gironde, which recalls that in Lille, Montpellier, Nice, Reims and Clermont-Ferrand, the ZFEs do not exclude bikers. Marianne Grand, coordinator of Angry Bikers in the department, considers the decision unfair and illogical: “Motorcycles make traffic flow more smoothly and we do not have diesel engines on our machines. We participated in the consultation phase, we spoke with Claudine Bichet, the elected representative of the Metropolis responsible for the ZFE, we do not understand. »
The federation writes in a press release that “Bordeaux Métropole is moving forward by ignoring the usefulness of motorized two/three wheels for improving traffic flow by reducing traffic jams by 30 to 35%, of the gain [en] travel times of motorcycles, our small footprint, the non-existence of diesel engines and the non-existent wear and tear on the roads by our vehicles. On the other hand, the FFMC 33 is based on an ANSES study where a greater proportion of motorized two/three wheels would promote the improvement of air quality in urban areas and with 50% less CO2 compared to a car. » She therefore believes that motorcycles are unfairly targeted in Bordeaux.
