Call for witnesses after a possible kidnapping in Rennes: the child has been identified

Wanted in since last Friday; following a possible kidnapping, the little boy was finally identified, the National Police said on Tuesday. As a reminder, two schoolgirls had raised the alarm after seeing an individual forcefully pull a child of around 7-8 years old, rue Max-Jacob, not far from Roazhon Park, in Rennes, while he was shouting “where is my mom? “.

After this testimony, the police immediately considered that the risks were serious enough to launch a call for witnesses. If the alert had been corroborated over the weekend by several other witnesses, the mystery still hovered around the circumstances of the boy's disappearance. Especially since the parents had not reported to the police.

An argument between brothers

After a neighborhood investigation and new testimonies, investigators from the juvenile brigade of the Territorial Crime Division managed to locate the child on Monday, while he was on a school trip with his class.

He was able to be heard this Tuesday morning and confirmed that the man, described as his potential kidnapper, was in fact… his big brother who was taking him home. “The scene worried the witnesses because there was strong tension between the two brothers at the time they were lost from sight,” said the police.

After ending the call for witnesses, the police wanted to thank the behavior of the two schoolgirls who raised the alarm for their seriousness and their civic-mindedness. “It is always better to alert quickly than to find yourself in a more worrying situation.”
