The end of 2024 is marked everywhere in by the announcement of vast social plans, but Touraine seems relatively protected from these cascading layoffs. Despite everything, Indre-et- remains concerned by the subject but “this remains concentrated mainly on small structures, SMEs“, explains Erick Kraemer, departmental director of France Travail. The sectors most affected are construction and industry. This relatively stable situation is confirmed by the monitoring of people who have lost their jobs, with “activity up slightly in the first half of 2024, but which remains comparable to previous years

As for the numbers, “la Touraine has the chance to maintain a development of salaried activity“, explains Erick Kraemer, up very slightly (+0.3%) while this indicator is down very slightly (-0.3%) at the regional level. Unemployment in Indre-et-Loire is also stable and at a lower level in Centre-Val de Loire. With some territorial disparities, South Touraine is still doing a little better (5.7%) than the Touraine metropolis (6.8%)

In Touraine, activity is driven upwards by services such as hotels and restaurants. On the other hand, the construction sector is struggling, like the temporary employment sector. “Temporary work plays its role as a shock absorber for the economic slowdown“, underlines the departmental director of France Travail. As for the unstable political context, “we have not observed a significant drop in the volume of job offers”, reassures Erick Kraemer, who adds that he works on the specific needs of businesses in Touraine.
