The Barid Al-Maghrib Group issues, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, a commemorative postage stamp dedicated to the designation of Marrakech as Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2024 .
The unveiling ceremony of this special program was organized in the ocher city on Sunday December 8, 2024, in the presence of many personalities, including the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mr. Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, the President from the Municipal Council of Marrakech, Mrs. Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Dr. Salim Mohamed AlMalik, and the General Director of the Barid Al-Maghrib Group, Mr. Amin Benjelloun Touimi.
The stamp “ Marrakech, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2024 », illustrates the majestic pavilion of the Menara, surrounded by its basin, its palm trees and the Atlas mountains in the background. Its earthy shades and elegant patterns capture the essence of Marrakech, a living symbol of Morocco’s history and fascinating architecture.
This issue, which embodies Barid Al-Maghrib’s commitment to promoting the exceptional cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco and celebrating the distinctions that honor its cities, is added to the philatelic collection dedicated to Marrakech, such as that celebrating the place Jemaa The Fna (2017) or the stamp marking the 9 centuries of Foundation of Marrakech (1960). It also continues Barid Al-Maghrib’s tradition of paying tribute to Moroccan cities honored by ICESCO, as was the case for Fez in 2007.
