Who from the European public prosecutor’s office or the Liège public prosecutor’s office is competent to examine the complaint filed by this Liège lobbyist Frédéric Baldan against the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for “usurpation of functions and title”, “destruction of public documents” and “ illegal taking of interests and corruption” in the context of the negotiation of a contract relating to an order of vaccines? This question is still unresolved today.
However, the hearing which was held on Friday in the council chambers, behind closed doors, should have provided some answers. Several hundred people, who became civil parties in addition to the initial complaint filed on April 5, 2023, made the trip, in vain.
The file was in fact postponed sine die due to a procedural problem, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office not having carried out a series of steps. The Liège investigating judge therefore refused to appear at the hearing.
The lobbyist held a press conference in the company of his lawyer Diane Protat: they consider that the offenses have been established and request the criminal referral of the parties involved, namely the president of the commission, the general director of Pfizer, Albert Bourla , and the companies Pfizer and BioNTech.
Next date to remember in this case: January 6, 2025, when it will go before the indictment chamber, where a control of the investigation will be carried out.
