1 exclusive Sonko controls everything, the Assembly and the government

The People wanted to give everything to Ousmane Sonko. And today, Sonko, all-powerful through the voice of the people, has the right of life and death over his deputies, over his government and over Senegal. Ousmane Sonko, who headed the PASTEF list, was widely voted for by the people to control everything. All of Sonko’s actions are done in the name of the people, for the people and by the people. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, elected by universal suffrage, no longer needs to strengthen the powers of his Prime Minister. The sovereign people have already done it. He has just had Barthélémy Dias removed from the National Assembly. Let no one be offended. It is the choice of the people through Sonko.

The deputy mayor of Dakar, Barthélémy Dias, head of the Samm Sa Kaddu coalition list, has just been expelled from the National Assembly by the majority of elected officials. Made up of 130 deputies, the elected representatives of the Party of African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF) prevail. They apply to the letter the directives of the president of PASTEF and Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko. The people elected them because they wanted to give Ousmane Sonko a large majority to carry out his policy of rupture. And today, PASTEF imposes its diktat and takes revenge on certain politicians.

« Let’s hope this isn’t the very beginning of the tyranny of the majority » said Alioune Tine, Founding President of the Think Tank AfrikaJom Center.

Tyranny or will of the people?

Ousmane Sonko is invested by the people to speak in their name, vote laws in their name and act essentially for the people. Any decision taken by Ousmane Sonko and adopted by the majority will be the will of the sovereign people. Certainly Alioune Tine is right to be concerned about the decisions taken by the majority. But these are decisions wanted by the Senegalese people who decided with full responsibility to put all their power (executive and legislative) in the hands of a single party, PASTEF. So we cannot speak of the tyranny of the people but of the will of the people.

For some Ousmane Sonko gave back his coin to Barthélémy Dias who had dismissed Abass Fall from his position as Deputy Mayor.

On Wednesday August 9, 2023, the Dakar town hall renewed its municipal office to enforce the decision of the Court of Appeal requiring respect for parity. Abass Fall, responsible for Pastef, was relieved of his duties as first deputy mayor, following the dissolution of his party. He is replaced by Ngoné Mbengue from Taxawu Senegal. In a post published on his Facebook page, Abass Fall indicated that his ouster from the town hall office of the city of Dakar is not news.

Sonko controls everything

Ousmane Sonko is the head of government. He is the Prime Minister and it is still he who is at the origin of Pastef’s overwhelming majority in the Assembly. Ousmane Sonko controls everything; the government and the National Assembly. The decisions taken in the National Assembly by the majority are directly dictated by Ousmane Sonko. And this without the knowledge of President Diomaye Faye. And today, we are witnessing a real separation of powers between the executive and the legislature because the one who controls the legislature is not the president of the republic. It’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

According to a reliable source, the President of the Republic was not aware of the plan to remove former MP Barthélémy Dias. He learned about it like everyone else, through the press.

The president can control his appointments at the weekly cabinet meeting, his directives, his travels and everything that happens inside the Palace. But after that, it is the Prime Minister who controls everything. All political decisions taken in the Assembly are controlled and approved by the PM. The government reports directly to the Prime Minister who is its sole interlocutor. The PM is today the strong man of the country and the only one who takes decisions in the name of the people, for the people and by the people.
