SENEGAL- SANITATION-COMMUNITIES / Saint-Louis: the prefect invites the population to keep neighborhoods clean – Senegalese press agency

Saint-Louis, Dec 7 (APS) – Abou Sow, the prefect of the Saint-Louis department, on Saturday invited the populations to keep their neighborhoods clean.

“It is important to clean but the most important thing is to keep the neighborhoods clean,” he called on the highly mobilized populations during the 7th edition of the national cleaning day “Setal sunu reew”.

”We can mobilize every month, [mais] the bulk of the work must be done by the populations by keeping the neighborhoods clean,” insisted the prefect who visited Guinaw Rail and Medina Course, two neighborhoods in the commune of Saint-Louis.

He says he hopes that one of the districts of Saint-Louis wins the challenge “Cleanest district in the country” launched by the Minister of Urban Planning, Territorial Communities and Regional Planning, Moussa Balla Fofana.

”In any case, we are going to send the photos before and after the operation and we hope that a district of Saint-Louis will win the challenge,” said Mr. Sow.

This day was initiated by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye the day after his election as head of the country.

The prefect affirms that we must instil the culture of cleanliness in citizen consciousness to have clean neighborhoods as well as cities and the country.

He thanked the town hall which mobilized its resources as well as the National Waste Management Company (SONAGED) with an exceptional mobilization of its agents despite the work done every day.

He also praised the strong mobilization of defense and security forces who came to lend a hand to young people.

Neighborhood leaders also, according to him, played an important role in raising awareness and mobilizing populations.
