After a breathtaking year in 2023 to celebrate its 160th anniversary, the Harmonie de Rion-des-Landes, the oldest musical society in the Landes, slowed down a little in 2024, although: a spring concert that was out of the ordinary with this dancing part, numerous festive invitations still to be honored, the concerts of the patronal festivals without forgetting the traditional May 8 and November 11. Add to all this the preparation of the major event of any musical structure: the preparation of Sainte-Cécile which closes the season.
Saturday, December 14, the concert in honor of Saint Cecilia will take place in two stages at the municipal theater: at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. For the occasion, director Mathieu Nogaro wishes to “bring the gaze of spectators and friends of music towards sites, monuments or places that are little-known, atypical, transformed, renovated. And even, why not transport them to wonderful discoveries through beautiful melodies.”
Eclectic program
Thus, over the course of ten pieces of a necessarily eclectic program to cover the Earth well beyond the seven Wonders of the world, you will be able to listen, among others, to a work by Rossano Galante born in Buffalo, trumpeter, composer of great stature and renowned orchestrator. Oscar Navarro, Spanish clarinetist, internationally recognized (film and concert music) can only seduce with an air of “Santiago Mestre”. There is no doubt that it will be the same when listening to “La Gaza Ladra”, an arrangement by virtuoso trombonist José Schyns. And “Brass Machine” arranged by Barusseau will give pride of place to “jazz tunes and other African bubbles”. There are a few places left for the 5 p.m. concert, but the 9 p.m. concert is already full.
-Sunday, December 15, as for several years, the Harmony will lead the Sunday service at 10:30 a.m., again at the municipal theater and no longer in the Saint-Barthélemy church. Several pieces from the previous day's concerts are on the program. Our musicians will deserve to catch their breath during the lunch that follows.
