Savoie: “people come to get bread at the Resto du Cœur”

The winter restaurant campaign started on November 18. After the financial crisis experienced by the association last year and its call for donations, the Restaurants can once again receive many beneficiaries. All scales have been raised, which means that more people can be helped. This winter the focus is on single-parent families, babies (from birth to 36 months) and the poorly housed, students who sleep in their car for example, those who are staying with family or friends.

12 centers in Savoie, including traveling distribution trucks

In Savoie, 12 centers welcome people who have difficulty feeding themselves, from Chautagne (Chindrieux) to Combe de Savoie, to Ugine or Maurienne. The association distributes 730,000 meals each winter to more than 6,200 beneficiaries. “For us this help is essential“say Maelle and her friend, they are Algerian and came to study in Chambéry this year. “We don't have a grant, the association helps us because we only have 20 euros per month for food in our budget.” These two students have a huge smile, they come to the restaurants, a little embarrassed, but so relieved to have this pasta, this tuna, the cans of coffee or the packets of flour.
Herman is also grateful: “I came for my baby Emmanuel, he will soon be 9 months old. The lady gave me small pots, but also fresh fruit, and even shoes for him.”
At this distribution site in Chambéry-le-Haut, the students come at the end of the morning on Friday, then the families.

Babies: a priority for Restaurants

The volunteer managers, in the various distribution centers in Savoie, took stock of the 40th Restos campaign, recalling the priorities. “We are focusing on single-parent families and babies this year.” explains Annie Velle, the president of Restos en Savoie. “Different studies show us that it takes six generations to escape poverty. This is unacceptable, we must fight against this. We must feed babies, but also allow parents to have good hygiene products, cooking for them, compotes, rather than small pots. In our centers, we will also try to set up pretty and quiet corners with them for the children. The president of the association recalls that everyone can find themselves in precariousness, and that solidarity is essential.
