On this World Volunteer Day, the ceremony was held in the premises of Udaf du Gard.
This Thursday, December 5, the premises of the Udaf du Gard in Nîmes hosted the now traditional ceremony of awarding the Childhood and Families Medal. A symbolic, centenary event, and particularly well chosen on this World Volunteer Day.
A century-old award
In the presence of the sub-prefect of Gard, Mathias Nieps, and the deputy for the 6th constituency of Gard, Sylvie Josserand, Lucien Bernard, president of the Udaf du Gard, opened the ceremony. In his speech, he recalled the evolution of a reward “which traditionally honored mothers and which was transformed, in 2022, to become the Medal for Children and Families. It now distinguishes those who, in difficult contexts, have raised children with dignity.”
The sub-prefect and the RN deputy, for their part, saluted the recipients in turn, but also the values upheld by family and volunteerism. “The family is a foundation, an institution where the values of mutual aid are transmitted”declared Mathias Nieps. Sylvie Josserand, for her part, compared these volunteers to “little bees” working discreetly but tirelessly to maintain social cohesion.
Three journeys, three emotions
Among the evening's medalists: Lisette Labourayre, a figure in the APF France Handicap association, received a tribute for her commitment to family associations. “After so many years of volunteering, there is recognition. I am very moved”she confided.
Mireille Lachaud, mother and administrator of Udaf and Unaf, was celebrated for her tireless involvement. Finally, Josiane Voirin, also an administrator at Udaf, closed the ceremony with a touch of humor and emotion: “Thank you to my children for putting up with me for thirty years. It goes both ways!”
