The economic dynamism of a territory is measured by the level of investments made by companies, but also by the scale of their recruitment. The Regional Employment Observatory in Nouvelle-Aquitaine has just delivered data on the volume of hiring carried out over the past year.
The period studied is between November 2023 and October 2024. Excluding temporary work, 120,085 recruitments were made in Deux-Sèvres. This is a drop of 1.4% over one year. A trend which pulls the regional average (-0.7%) downward. The decline has been very clear since May 2024. September, usually a buoyant month, resulted in 500 fewer hires.

Only services survive

The services sector, with 89,000 contracts, is largely in the majority. It is also the only one which shows a small increase (+ 1.1%). Commerce (-9%), agriculture and industry (-8%) and even construction (-6.5%) had significantly fewer labor needs.
Fixed-term contracts of less than one month (76,560) are in the majority and at a stable level, far ahead of permanent contracts (19,723, – 6%), fixed-term contracts of 1 to 5 months (15,591, + 1.9% ) and fixed-term contracts of 6 months or more (8208, -7.6%). A sign of reluctance and a lack of perspective on the part of employers, long-term contracts are therefore in sharp decline.

At the end of September 2024, there were 23,688 job seekers registered in category A, B or C at Travail in Deux-Sèvres. This is an increase of 1.7% over one year. The unemployment rate, around 5.4%, remains one of the lowest in France.
