Former deputy, mayor of the 18th arrondissement and councilor of Paris, Pierre-Yves Bournazel (Horizons) is now a candidate to become the next councilor of the capital. Thursday December 5, 2024, he was questioned about his ambitions on the show “Île-de- Politics”dont actu is a partner. Less than 2 years before the election, the contender to succeed Anne Hidalgo has revealed the outlines of his program.

A long-standing municipal ambition

This is not the first time that Pierre-Yves Bournazel wish to run Paris City Hall. In 2014 and 2020 he had already positioned himself, but was forced at the time to give up one's place to Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet then to Benjamin Griveaux. But for him, this time is the right one: “I will not give up my place,” assures the center-right candidate.

On the other hand, according to an Ifop-Fiducial survey for Le Figaro et South Radio as of December 2, 2024, Rachida Dati emerges in pole position on all hypotheses tested. In fact, it would bring together between 29 and 38% of voting intentions in the first round of elections municipal in Paris. According to this same study, 62% of respondents say they do not even know Pierre-Yves Bournazel. “I accept that I am not a political starhe concedes, and in any case, Paris is a graveyard for favorites.”

“Paris just for Paris and everything for Paris”

With the fall of Michel Barnier's government, and the political instability that has weighed on France since the dissolution, the electoral calendarwhose next deadline is the municipal election, is likely to be disrupted again. “We are used to calendar disruptionsyou have to keep a cool head,” he continues.

But for the mayor of the 18th arrondissement, there is no question of returning to the voters in the event of a anticipated new legislation. “Paris just for Paris and everything for Paris,” he insisted. Its ambitions therefore seem clear for try to recover Paris City Hall to the left, notably with a change in the mode of governance.

Reduce Paris’ debt Bournazel style

Thus, the elected official proposes to reduce the City's expenses, in particular with the reduction in mayor's salary from 6,500 to 5,200 euros, as well as the end of service cars. One drop of water less, but in a glass that is already overflowing [ndlr. la dette de Paris atteint 9 milliards d’euros]. In fact, these few measures will never compensate the state allocation to Paris which today is approaching zero, but also the ever-increasing subsidies that the municipality owes to local authorities.

“I propose a 1 billion savings plan on a mandate, he promises, we must debureaucratize the Parisian administration.” At the head of Paris City Hall, the elected official also ensures “not increase the premises” while giving “priority of access to housing to City agents”, for whom the recruitment method will be reviewed.

Housing and public space as priorities

At the heart of its program, housing occupies a central squares. This is why he launched a series of consultations to understand the expectations of Parisians. To date, 2,000 responses have been returned, with the subjects of housing and public space in mind. “Paris must take its part in terms of housing,” recognizes the elected official, who proposes to “think about housing on the scale of Greater Paris”in particular by investing in empty offices which can benefit residents, and by “financing housing in the suburbs”.

For the municipal councilor, who wishes work together with citizens during his mandate, “Paris must be one step ahead”. The latter thus puts emphasis on public space of which “the pedestrian will be the priority”, just like “bus journeys”. Pierre-Yves Bournazel wants to “desaturate public space and appease it” and therefore criticizes the triangle tower project, promising that “the high rise construction it will be over with us.” On the thorny issue of the 50 km/h ring road, the candidate has eclipsed the subject, ensuring that he will not return to it if he is elected.
