SolYmusées offers a great initiative from the Yvelines department which builds a bridge between Art, Culture, Health, Museums and Disability

For four years, the Department has encouraged collaboration and the sharing of experiences of museums and centers in its territory by regularly leading workshops and thematic training offered to all Yvelin establishments. Born from the desire to consolidate this network through a unifying common project and to put the teams and cultural tools of the Department at the service of its health and autonomy policies, the SolYmusées program makes it possible to offer global support to 18 museums or art centers in their policy in favor of people with disabilities. The selected establishments have access to four systems focused on two central objectives: making culture accessible and making culture a well-being tool serving the quality of life of Yvelin residents.

Promote accessibility in museums for all Yvelin residents.

Two systems are devoted to accessibility issues:

– each site will be able to benefit from a accessibility diagnosis followed by a recommendation phase fully funded by the Department;

a cycle of six training courses led by reference structures (Action Handicap , Culture du Cœur, Fondation Falret and Culture Accessible) will make agents aware of the reception of people suffering from all types of physical and mental disabilities as well as the reception of public in precarious situations.

The Department will also pilot a week of disability between December 1 and 7, 2025 during which shows around disability or carried by artists with disabilities will take place in all beneficiary museums and art centers.

Museum prescriptions, a first in France.

Finally, the Department is inaugurating its system of museum requirements. This type of prescription, launched for the first time in 2018 in Quebec and since then being tested in numerous museums, allows caregivers to prescribe trips to museums for their patients. Beneficial effects are observed in cases of pathologies linked to stress, personality disorders and in people having to deal with physical or moral pain. will be the first French community to experiment with museum regulations on a territorial scale. These prescriptions will be offered to a wide range of caregivers and social workers. Feedback from health and cultural professionals is already planned to develop this system with them.

For Joséphine Kollmannsberger, deputy vice-president for culture and tourism, « Culture is an essential dimension of solidarity policy. SolYmusées is a fantastic project. It will allow all Yvelin residents, whatever their disability, to access the cultural gems of our territory. »
