Man nicknamed “the Cuban” shot dead in an ambush in Ajaccio

A 49 year old man “nicknamed ‘the Cuban'”was shot dead outside his home this Wednesday evening in Ajaccio (South Corsica), said the public prosecutor, Nicolas Septe. Sentenced at the end of 2023 for drug trafficking, he was “victim of several gunshots on the public highway near a residence in Sanguinaires while he was returning home on a scooter”around 11:20 p.m., the magistrate explains.

Originally from Cuba, “the victim had recently benefited from a sentence adjustment such as conditional release”the prosecutor said. “The shooting point overlooked the road that led the victim to his home and left no doubt about the preparation of the homicide and the fact that he was very likely expected by his attackers”.

Vehicle found burned

“Witnesses reported the presence of two hooded individuals who then fled in a vehicle” which was
“found charred shortly afterwards at the marine cemetery” not far away, the prosecutor said. An investigation has been opened on the charge of murder and entrusted to the organized crime division of the directorate (DCOS).

“The modus operandi of this assassination led investigators to believe that the action was part of serious crime.”Nicolas Septe stressed, adding that the Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Marseille, which specializes in cases related to organized crime, has been “wise” of these facts.
