The famous Michelin Guide in its 2024 edition has just renewed its two stars in the city of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir).

Stars that fall into the category of ” Travel and Culture“, and who recommend the city as ” worth the detour “. The renewal of this label “which demonstrates the consistent excellence of Chartres’ heritage offering and congratulates the City’s efforts in this regard” does not fail to please the City.

For tourists in search of discoveries, a new version in 2024

A Michelin Green Guide which therefore renews its two stars and which complements the no less famous Michelin Red Guide expected each year for its food critics.

Bible for tourists in search of beautiful remarkable destinations and discoveriesthe Green Guide is just as eagerly awaited. And, in 2024, Michelin affirms its desire to provide a complete experience to travelers with a new version called ” Michelin Travel and Culture Guide« .

Nine criteria for responding to the Travel and Culture Guide

To integrate the strict selection of the Green Guide, Michelin has retained nine criteria which refine its choices as communicated by the City of Chartres:

Videos: currently on News
  • 1. Feeling when discovering the site
  • 2. Notoriety
  • 3. Heritage wealth and wealth of the visit
  • 4. Presence of labels
  • 5. Intrinsic or historical value
  • 6. Beauty and aesthetics
  • 7. Authenticity and charm
  • 8. Quality of reception
  • 9. Quality of life

Suffice to say that Chartres ticks all the boxes. The content offered by the Guide is particularly rich and precise, with a list of the must-see sites to visit, starting with the unmissable Notre-Dame Cathedral, “plans, detailed maps and suggested itineraries, numerous addresses selected for all budgets, as well as ideas for programs, from a weekend to several weeks” details the City which finds what it offers on its site.

“Chartres, a complete destination”

Beyond its cathedral, classified as a UNESCO world heritage site since 1979 – one of the first monuments to receive the label – Chartres is a complete tourist destination.

The city offers a stay with varied activities to its visitors. From the historic district to the Maison Picassiette, from the banks of the Eure by canoe to the treetop adventure course in the André Gagnon park, stopping at the many cafés and restaurants, travelers can enjoy a range of activities for all expectations. Located between Paris and the Loire Valley castles and on the Véloscénie route (cycling route linking Paris to Mont Saint-Michel), Chartres is a perfect short stay for a weekend.

City of Chartres – C’Chartres Tourism

Tourism, the keystone

The boom in short stays and slow tourism has allowed Chartres to seize this opportunity to rethink its tourism policy in order to bring it into line with expectations.

This has notably resulted in the resumption of the city’s campsite and the installation of eco-lodges within it. The initiatives will continue until next year on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the cathedral’s foundations.

I am delighted with the renewal of these two stars which confirm that Chartres is worth the detour thanks to its magnificent heritage as well as the wealth of its proposals and the quality of its welcome. The C’Chartres Tourisme team works and adapts with enthusiasm to the evolution of tourism today and tomorrow. The committee of tourism stakeholders brings its professionalism to work hand in hand with C’Chartres tourisme in the same direction. Through these two stars of the Michelin guide, it is this partnership, among others, which is rewarded.
