Michel Barnier fell. Only three deputies from Yvelines voted for the motion of censure tabled by the left: Dieynaba Diop and Aurélien Rousseau (Socialists and related), and Benjamin Lucas (Ecologist and social). The others, however, did not vote for the motion of censure. This is the case of the “Together for the Republic” deputies: Yaël Braun-Pivet (as president of the National Assembly), Natalia Pouzyreff, Marie Lebec, Aurore Bergé, Karl Olive and Charles Rodwell. Same thing for Béatrice Piron (Horizons and Independents), and Laurent Mazaury (Libertés, Independents, Overseas and Territories). After only 3 months the Prime Minister's government was overthrown. This is the first time that the National Assembly has brought down a government since 1962.
Michel Barnier will hand in his resignation today to Emmanuel Macron who will speak to the French this evening at 8 p.m. We do not yet know what message the president wishes to communicate, or even if a new name will be revealed. What we do know, however, is that certain names are already circulating in the corridors of the Elysée, just as they were after the dissolution of the assembly. Before the vote Emmanuel Macron pointed out an “unbearable cynicism” of the RN if he added his votes to those of the NFP.
