Traffic at this structure will be disrupted in both directions.

The Saint-Laurent bridge in Chalon-sur-Saône, which connects the city center to Saint-Laurent Island, will be under construction from July 15 to 26, 2024. Traffic at this structure will be disrupted in both directions.

After lightning struck the Pont Saint Laurent on August 24, 2023, destroying one of the structure’s four obelisks, and the subsequent inspection showing no risk to users, the Department of Saône-et-Loire will begin work to reconstruct this column, identically, from July 15 to 26. And with the same stones as those used during the reconstruction of the bridge in 1953, from the Euville quarry in the Meuse.

In order to carry out this work in complete safety for the personnel and for the equipment required for this delicate operation,

– the area will be demarcated
– the north sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians who will be able to cross the bridge by the opposite sidewalk
– the incoming lane, in the direction of Ile Saint-Laurent – Chalon-sur-Saône, will be closed on half of the structure
– the alternate traffic will be managed by the city of Chalon-sur-Saône which is providing logistical support for this operation.

The French Waterways Services were informed of the works and issued a notice to shipping No. FR/2024/04683 on 21 June to encourage waterway users to exercise caution when approaching these works.

Aware of the inconvenience caused by this major hazard to its construction site, the Department of Saône-et-Loire is mobilizing all the resources and stakeholders available to carry out an accelerated operation.
