Illan Pietrus signs for 3 seasons!

Trained at the club, Illan Pietrus (1m92) signs his first professional contract with SIG Strasbourg, for a period of 3 years. A talented player, he is, like Maxence Lemoine a few weeks ago, the illustration of the new club project that is being set up, aimed at developing young prospects and making them responsible.

A child of the club, Illan Pietrus has been involved in basketball since he was very young. Having started playing basketball at the age of 2 in Valencia, he quickly climbed the ranks in the youth categories in Spain, where his father, Florent Pietrus, played. He continued his journey by joining the Nancy club at the age of 8. His talent and passion for the game propelled him to the next level, joining the SIG Strasbourg Espoirs team at just 14 years old.

His fine performances with the Espoirs not only demonstrated his undeniable talent, but also confirmed his ability to establish himself as an essential player for the future of SIG Strasbourg.

In addition to his successes with the Espoirs, Illan has also shone on the international scene with the various French youth teams over the last three years. By being selected with the U16, U17, and U18 teams. He has participated several times in international competitions such as recently the ANGT (Adidas Next Generation Tournament), where he was able to stand out and proudly represent our club at the highest level. These enriching experiences have forged his character and refined his skills.

His signing marks an important step in his career and for SIG Strasbourg, which continues to rely on his talents to enable them to build a solid and promising future.

The sports director, Nicholas Alberanicomments the signature: “Illan’s signing is part of the club’s project to develop young prospects that we see growing within our Training Center. He showed very interesting qualities and assets in Espoirs and during international competitions last season. We all know Illan’s offensive qualities when he is confident. With this first professional contract, we expect him to progress further on both sides of the field and to be able to bring us his energy and freshness, with precision, when he is called upon to enter the game..”

The coach, Laurent Vilaadding: “I have been following Illan Pietrus’ development for a few years. I saw him develop in a “combo-guard” position, a versatile player between point guard and second guard. Today, he feels better at position 2. However, I think he will be able to develop in position 1, particularly defensively to stop the opposing point guard. We will make him work as much as possible to see how far he can go in these two positions and further develop his versatility. He will have to bring us his aggressiveness, attack the basket and take his open shots, things he already knows how to do and likes to do. Illan joins the professional squad as a backup to Dominic Artis. He will therefore be in rotation. Coming off the bench, I will be able to count on his aggressiveness, his commitment, and his character to maintain a stable level of play during the match. I find him very ambitious, I know that he has a great capacity for work and that he really wants to defend our colors. With Maxence Lemoine and him, we have two young professional players who really want to help the team as much as possible. It’s up to them to take up the challenge. I know they’re going to be fully committed during training and when they get on the field. They’re going to bring positive energy to the group.
