Presented for the first time in France at the Festival Off d’Avignon in a Portuguese production “Tebas land” by the Franco-Uruguayan author, Sergio Blanco offers a profound reflection on human nature. More precisely on the relationship between a young incarcerated parricide and a writer who decided to interview him in prison, in order to design a play on the murder he committed.

We discover the prisoner on the basketball court of a prison where we are shown the interviews between these two characters as if it were a documentary. Inspired by the myth of Oedipus and the life of Saint Martin de Tour who lived in the 4th century, this play, of original design, is not centered on the reconstruction of a crime but rather on the meetings between the young murderer and this compassionate playwright (we will see why) who wishes to write his story.

Then begins a play within a play in which the actor Otto JR plays only the playwright and the actor Robson Torinni who leaves his mark by splitting himself into the parricide and then the actor playing the parricide. Reason and emotion mix here in a theatrical moment of vast magnitude (the play telling the story of its own writing) constant visual projections of a truth and a lie, “Tebas land” is also overwhelming by the strength of its interpretation and the dizzying staging of Victor Garcia Peralta. Exposing themes such as emotional deprivation, loneliness, family dysfunction, the flaws of a prison system at the end of its rope, forgiveness and “Tebas land” pretends to tell a story and develops several others.

Magical, powerful, unforgettable.
