The balances are beginning to stabilise within the European Parliament, one month after the European elections. The European People’s Party (EPP), in which Les Républicains led by François-Xavier Bellamy sit, remains the leading political force in Strasbourg with 188 MEPs. Behind, in second place, we still find the Socialists and Democrats group with 136 elected representatives.

But the recomposition on the right reshuffles the cards. The new group “Patriots for Europe”, driven by Viktor Orban and now chaired by Jordan Bardella, climbs to third place. It brings together 84 elected representatives including the Italians of Matteo Salvini’s League and Austrians from the Freedom Party. Closely followed by the group European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) of Giorgia Meloni, composed of 78 elected representatives including the French Marion Maréchal, Guillaume Peltier, Laurence Trochu and Nicolas Bay.

As a result, the Renew group, in which the Renaissance MEPs, led by Valérie Hayer, sit, has now been demoted from third to fifth place. A new defeat for the head of the Renaissance list, who, on the evening of 9 June, had already suffered a heavy defeat behind the National Rally.
