Agricultural unions indicated on Wednesday that they will be “extremely vigilant towards elected officials who, through their vote, prevent the implementation of urgent measures for the agricultural sector”.
MPs who vote in favor of censuring the Barnier government will receive “the visit of farmers to have explanations on their position”announced the trade unions in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, in a letter consulted on Wednesday by AFP. The Young Farmers (JA) and the Regional Federation of Farmers' Unions (FRSEA) of Burgundy-Franche-Comté indicate that they will be “extremely vigilant towards elected officials who, through their vote, would prevent the implementation of urgent measures for the agricultural sector” planned in the 2025 budget.
In their Tuesday letter, the agricultural unions recall that “the current situation makes the outcome of the vote on the finance bill for 2025 and the social security financing bill for 2025 unpredictable”two texts containing “major advances” for the profession. The unions recall that at the start of the year, measures were considered by the Attal government then abandoned with the dissolution of the National Assembly pronounced by Emmanuel Macron. “Negotiations have been resumed with the Barnier government and the profession is now awaiting urgent measures to finally respond to this deep crisis”add the unions. Addressing the deputies, they say they count “on your commitment to defend the agricultural sector” et “on your responsibility not to add crisis to crisis”.
The FNSEA opposed to censorship
The FNSEA also sent a message to its members, so that they pass the message to the deputies, calling for governmental stability in the last days. The resignation of the government “will also result in a halt in the construction of emergency measures whose implementation is already long overdue: health compensation, treasury support, simplification of regulations…”quotes the majority union.
And to add that the deputies have “still the ability to choose to support the agricultural world by favoring an essential compromise on this budget over an ideological confrontation heralding blockage and inaction”. The text argues for “pragmatism and reason” and not “political consideration”. The National Assembly votes on Wednesday evening for or against the motion of censure which should bring down the Barnier government, an act unprecedented since 1962 with great political and budgetary uncertainty involved. The left's motion should be adopted in the evening, thanks to the support of the RN which considers its requests insufficiently taken into account in the budget.
