From the beginning of 2025, the new generation of electric Vélo’v will begin to be deployed in the Lyon metropolitan area. They will make it possible to climb without any problem to the top of the Croix-Rousse or Fourvière hills.

A new Vélo’v, more practical and easier to access. From January 2025, the new electric models of Lyon’s self-access bicycles will begin to be deployed in the capital of Gaul and its metropolis.

A bike that has undergone some adjustments compared to its ancestor. For example, the removable battery is gone, replaced by an on-board battery that is recharged at a station.

Another new feature, particularly useful for cyclists: a more powerful engine, with a range of 40 kilometers. With it, it will be possible to climb to the top of Fourvière or the hills of Croix-Rousse.

Work “throughout 2024”

To accommodate these new bikes, the terminals at the station must be adapted. Once modified, they will “recharge the electric Vélo’v in less than three hours to allow for rotation and a service that is operational all the time,” explains Philippe Guelpa-Bonaro, vice-president of the metropolis in charge of climate and energy.

In order to be ready on time, major works “are underway throughout 2024”, according to the elected official. These will be completed “before the end of the year”, he assures, for the official launch of the new range of electric Vélo’v from the beginning of 2025.

Between 30 and 35 new stations should see the light of day by this time. More flexibility will also be put in place in the subscription packages. Access to the service and the fleet of 2,500 Vélo’v electric bikes is now possible for all subscribers.
