A 22-year-old man was taken into custody in Paris on Tuesday after accusing himself of murder, prosecutors said, confirming a report from BFM TV, which said the victim was a transgender woman.

The man “presented himself today at around 10 a.m. at the police station in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine) and declared that he had stabbed someone in the 16th arrondissement of Paris,” reported the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Murder investigation opened on grounds of victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity

Informed by their colleagues in Clamart, the police officers of the 16th arrondissement found, at the scene indicated by the suspect, “the lifeless body of the victim, whose identity has not been confirmed at this stage”, added the public prosecutor.

An investigation has been opened for murder based on the victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The investigations have been entrusted to the 1st district of the Paris judicial police (DPJ).

According to BFM TV, the victim is an escort girl with whom the young man had arranged to meet on the night of Monday to Tuesday. He allegedly killed her after realizing that the woman was transgender, according to the news channel.
