Four individuals brought before court after the ransacking of a bar in Alès following the announcement of the legislative results

A bar in Alès (Gard) was ransacked and its customers attacked after the results of the second round of the legislative elections were announced on Sunday. Four people belonging to the far-left movement were taken into custody, which was lifted on Tuesday. The suspects were brought before a court for their immediate appearance.

Election night turned into a free-for-all. Tensions and clashes broke out after the results of the legislative elections were announced in some French cities. The “Bar de La Marine” in Alès was ransacked on Sunday evening, a few minutes after the results of the second round were announced. Customers present at the time of the incident were attacked, and two people were slightly injured.

Four alleged attackers – one of whom is from the Paris region – aged between 20 and 40 were quickly arrested and placed in police custody until Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. for carrying weapons, group violence and group destruction. They were then brought before the public prosecutor for an immediate appearance scheduled for this Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

In the meantime, an individual in his thirties known to the police was placed in pre-trial detention, while another in his forties, also known to the authorities, was placed under judicial supervision, as a repeat offender for vandalism. The prosecutor had also requested a detention warrant against the latter.

The two other suspects, aged around forty and twenty, were released after their police custody. The bar targeted is known to be frequented by supporters of the National Rally and Reconquête, the Alès prosecutor’s office confirmed to CNEWS.

FOUR PEOPLE STILL WANTED

The first tensions arose around 8:30 p.m. when a group of eight people passed by the bar and began insulting the customers there. Then, the situation quickly escalated. Faced with the danger, the entrance door of the establishment was closed but one of the alleged attackers remained trapped inside.

The man was subdued, but the other members of the group then tried to get him out. The suspects grabbed the stone slabs blocking the parasol bases and threw them into the door, which shattered. They tried to free their friend, who was still inside. One of them managed to get into the bar where he hit some customers. The blows intensified, reports Midi Libre.

“There were individuals with black and red flags who came to shout in front of my café and when I opened, one of them came out of nowhere to rush in, rush towards one of my customers and headbutt him,” the bar owner testified on France Bleu.

Of the eight attackers, only four have been arrested. The others are still being sought.
