For her part, the first vice-president of the Peruvian Congress, Ms. Patricia Juárez Gallegos, highlighted the initiative of the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group intended to institutionalize November 30 of each year as Morocco Day within of the Congress, “in commemoration of the visit made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Congress of the Republic, thus becoming the first Arab and African Head of State to address our legislative power”.
She stressed that this recognition is not only an expression of mutual respect, but also a declaration of intent to continue working towards the promotion of parliamentary dialogue, the exchange of experiences and the cooperation on issues of common interest.
For his part, the President of the Moroccan-Peruvian Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Ernesto Bustamante, focused his speech, among other subjects, on the need for the opening of a Peruvian consulate in one of the two Moroccan cities. from the South, Laâyoune or Dakhla, so that Peru becomes the first South American country to act in this way; highlighting Peru’s aspiration to benefit from Morocco’s remarkable economic growth, through the establishment of major partnerships, notably the signing of a possible strategic agreement aimed at connecting the Ports of Chancay, inaugurated very recently in Peru, and that of Dakhla Atlantique in Morocco.
Mr. Ernesto Bustamante also pleaded in favor of the conclusion of a free trade agreement between Morocco and Peru, as well as the need for the application of the principle of reciprocity in matters of visa exemption on passports. ordinary Moroccans like what was done by Morocco, which had abolished this formality for Peruvian citizens since 2017.
This commemoration at the Peruvian Congress saw the participation, in addition to Ms. Patricia Juárez Gallegos and Mr. Ernesto Bustamante Donayre, of Ms. Auristela Obando Morgan, president of the Foreign Relations Commission, as well as several deputies who are members of the Friendship Group and this commission, in addition to former senior state officials, in this case Ms. Ana María Choquehuanca, former Minister of Production, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as several personalities from political, diplomatic and media circles, friends of Morocco.
Furthermore, the Moroccan embassy offered a reception, the same day of this celebration, which was enhanced by the presence of eminent personalities from the three powers of the State, in particular the president of the Peruvian Congress, Mr. Eduardo Salhuana Cavides; the President of the Judiciary, Mr. Javier Arévalo Vela; the Minister of Foreign Relations, Mr. Elmer Schialer, the Minister of Education, Mr. Morgan Quero; senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; as well as personalities representing the political, diplomatic, economic, cultural spheres, as well as the media and civil society.
