The announcement of the ceasefire in Lebanon is “a positive development, but it must be respected and consolidated to create the conditions necessary for the preservation of the unity of this country and the security of its territory”, indicated Mr. . Bourita during a joint press conference with his Djiboutian counterpart following their talks.
Morocco welcomes all international efforts aimed at establishing the ceasefire in Lebanon and putting an end to repeated attacks against the Lebanese territory and people, added the minister.
Mr. Bourita thus described international initiatives aimed at guaranteeing the stability of Lebanon as “important”, expressing the hope that the ceasefire would be respected after “violations were unfortunately noted in its implementation by the parts”.
The minister also expressed hope that the ceasefire could pave the way for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 on southern Lebanon, stressing the importance of working towards strengthening the role of Lebanese national institutions in order to strengthen the security and safety of the Lebanese people. “The Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, supports the territorial integrity of Lebanon and its sovereignty over its territory,” underlined Mr. Bourita, affirming that the stability of the country of the Cedar remains essential to guarantee its unity and strengthen the security and safety of its people.
In this regard, Mr. Bourita also insisted on the need to find a solution to the Palestinian question, in the sense that it is the “best way to guarantee security and stability in the Middle East.”
And to conclude that the strengthening of security and stability in the region “can only be done through the resolution of the Palestinian question within the framework of the two-State solution and the creation of an independent Palestinian State with Al Quds-East as capital, based on the 1967 borders.
